Welcome to the website of Edinburgh Community Cafe Network. On this website you will find information about what a community cafe is and where you can visit one (or several!) in Edinburgh.
Please use the tabs on the  bar above to find out more.

What is a community cafe?

Our definition of a community cafe is inclusive and based on common consensus. Most cafes are profit-making and this money usually goes towards a charitable group or community service.
Community cafes in Edinburgh are varied and individual, many working towards one or more of these aims:

  • Be a sociable place
  • Support people to develop their skills
  • Independent
  • Attractive to all ages
  • Promote healthier eating
  • Serve fair‐trade and ethical choices
  • Efficient, professional and modern
  • A place that prevents isolation
  • A place that depends on support from volunteers
  • Use local produce
  • Be very welcoming
  • Social enterprise

The Edinburgh Community Cafes Network aims to bring cafes across the city together to support each other. If you are interested in joining the network or would like to find out more, please get in touch using the 'Contact Us' tab.

See our video below for a peek into some of the cafes around town and to find out more about our network. You can also join in the fun and keep up to date on our facebook page.
