Allergy and intolerance: guidance for businesses
On 13th December 2014, new legislation (the EU Food Information for Consumers Regulation 1169/2011) came into place requiring food businesses to provide allergy information on food sold unpackaged, in for example catering outlets, deli counters, bakeries and sandwich bars. There were also changes to existing legislation on labelling allergenic ingredients in prepacked foods. Guidance has been developed to help businesses meet these new requirements and this page will continue to be updated as more support tools are made available.
Click here to get to the FSA website for more information, or download the Loose Foods Leaflet below which is applicable to small businesses and community cafes. The allergen chart and the recipe sheets are handy checklists that any chef or person preparing food can complete so that all staff can check when somebody says they have an allergy. The think allergy poster can be printed off to stick up in the food preparation areas or front of house.
